Honor has been instrumental in transforming our son's educational experience over the past four years. Her expertise in addressing dyslexia, particularly in reading, comprehension, and writing, has helped our son reach grade-level. Her patience, dedication, and exceptional skills have made a profound impact on his life. Honor's ability to understand and adapt her teaching methods to our son's unique learning style was key to his success. We highly recommend Honor for her outstanding work, commitment and ability to inspire and motivate her pupils.

It's been incredibly helpful to have you tutor and teach our son these past years. The psychologist that we saw mentioned that the tutoring work must have had a big effect because although we spoke about X's challenges the results of the testing showed so much understanding and ability in many areas that we described as being big challenges. – C Peppley (parent of grade 8 student)

We are so grateful for the work you are doing with our son. He really enjoys it and feels like he is making progress, which is amazing! I know it's a long road, but he is on the move again. He was feeling pretty darn frustrated. – C Peppley (parent of grade 7 student)
June 2021
When my son received his diagnosis of severe dyslexia, ADHD, and generalized anxiety, I felt overwhelmed at the task ahead of him and our family. I was also frustrated at the lack of resources in the public school system and the community. Many of the recommended resources were with larger institutions and had waitlists of over a year or more. A Google search finally led me to Honor. She wasn't fazed by his diagnosis and was quick to normalize them. By the end of the first day, she connected with my son and, watching their interaction, convinced me that we had made the right decision. I still wasn't sure what to expect with my son's reading abilities; however, in only three months he went from not recognizing his own name to reading at a solid Grade 1 level. He's also become more confident and better able to advocate for himself. Honor's patience, ability to keep my son focused, positivity towards his future, and excitement in watching him grow and develop are what makes her truly special. Thank you from all of us. - A.P. My daughter has had a wonderful experience with Honor Hedges Royer and Read Write Smile. My daughter has made great strides in her reading levels [now at grade level], the composition and pronunciation of words, spelling, and her confidence while working with Honor. Honor is very patient and does a great job with providing topics that the child is interested in and methods that they can be enthusiastic about. This past year has been a unique year with the covid-19 shut downs and Honor has managed to implement her program remotely and successfully during this difficult time. I would highly recommend Honor to any family with a child struggling with dyslexia.

Our daughter joined Honor with low self esteem, self confidence and symptoms of anxiety because she was falling behind in school. We contacted Honor immediately for help and almost Instantly, our daughter connected with her on a level I never thought could happen. Honor's caring, supportive approach and tailored teaching style has impacted my daughter immensely and it's showing in all area of her work. If you are a parent with a child who is struggling in reading , do not second guess yourself on contacting Honor. She will go the extra mile to ensure success. I promise, your child will thank you.

Thanks Honor.
I am very appreciative of the progress that Keira is making!
She was in a fantastic mood last week and even volunteered to read to me every night at bedtime. I cannot remember the last time she did that. Granted, she chose to read one of her younger brothers animal books, but that's a great start and evidence that your efforts with her are paying off.
Thank you x 1000!

Our son has been working with Honor Hedges Royer, owner of Read, Write, Smile for the past two months. The experience thus far has been decidedly positive and our son has greatly benefitted from Honor's deep understanding of his issues and unique approach to helping him overcome them. The intent originally, was to conduct the lessons in her home however, given the current restrictions to social interaction the sessions were moved into a virtual classroom. We were hesitant on how the virtual lessons would go given that our son had only met Honor once for his assessment and had not yet established a relationship with her. The transition was seamless and dare we say it, has actually worked out better from a family schedule perspective. The positive outcome of all of this, is that our son can continue working with Honor thanks to her flexibility in delivering instruction as we are moving from Kingston to another province.

Our daughter has been working with Honor for two years. Over the course of each school year, we have seen a consistent improvement in our daughter's abilities to read and write, which is wonderful given the importance of such skills. Honor's personable approach along with her dedication to our daughter's learning has and continues to be much appreciated and very much valued. Thank you for all that you have done!

We initially came to Honor with our then struggling six year old. She is special needs and had a speech delay and we were finding it difficult to find someone to work with her on her reading/writing. Now Hailey is an avid reader and receives endless compliments on her writing/detail. We later asked her to also work with our 9 year old, as she was able to read/write but her teachers were finding that she was falling behind. Both now meet/exceed the expectations of their teachers. We highly recommend Honor and her skilled approach to helping our kids get to where they need to be! - Elizabeth Johnston

Our daughter was reading way below her grade level and was becoming distressed that she would never "get it". After only a few sessions with Honor, she was picking up words she hadn't been able to before, and actually understanding them.
Unfortunately, we only got to work with Honor for a short time [due to a military posting] but what she has taught our daughter has given her the confidence to keep trying. - Nikki (mother of grade three student)

Our (9 year old) son has been working with Honor for three months and has been making so much progress. We were worried that he would fight going after being at school all day but he has never once complained and he has said he sees a difference and looks forward to going. We highly recommend Read Write Smile to anyone we know who's struggling with reading and writing!! - Joanne Delaney Cronk

Hailey just completed grade one and has had many challenges both in and out of school. Teachers have had difficulty working with her due to a speech delay and an attention disorder. When I first brought her to Honor she couldn't recognize all of the letters of her alphabet/sounds. I began to see improvement almost immediately and, in a few short months, she has exceeded my expectations. Hailey comes home from her sessions excited and motivated to do her work because she can tell she is doing well. This is the best investment I have made into Hailey's future and we look forward to continuing with her lessons this term. - Elizabeth Johnston

My 8yr old son has struggled from a very early age with his letters & sounds. He never wanted to read or even try to sound out words. Even simple words like dog or cat seemed foreign to him to sound out. By the end of SK he still could hardly sound out his letters. With early intervention he was diagnosed with a learning disability "dyslexia."
My son has now been in tutoring twice a week for 1 year with Honor @ Read Write Smile & the difference in only 1 year has been amazing!
Not only can my son WIZ through the alphabet, he is READING! Gavin is in grade 2 and is keeping up with his class. Gavin's confidence & positive attitude has soared.
Honor provides a positive & fun atmosphere for my son & it shows! He is so proud of himself & is learning to love reading! THANK YOU Honor! -Julie Hamilton

Read Write Smile was recommended to us by my son’s second grade teacher after seeing how it helped one of his classmates.
We are very pleased that we found Honor at just the right time as something has really “clicked” with his reading ability and interest. He often talks about what he is working on with Honor, he never avoids doing his “Honor homework” and we’ve seen a great improvement in his reading level.
Honor is special and able to get through to our son in a positive and effective manner.

I first met Honor through a friend. I at first thought the cost was too high, but then another struggling school year went by for my 14 year-old son, Max.
First, Honor will do an extensive assessment interview with the student and the parent. She is very thorough and asks pertinent questions. She then evaluates the child’s needs. It was very hard for me to hear that my grade 9 student was reading at a grade 4 level. But she gave us hope.
Max LOVES going to see Honor twice a week and this is a kid who HATES school. She inspires him, makes him want to learn. Very caring, thoughtful, intelligent and never gives up.
Max is doing so much better. He may never love school and will not be a voracious reader, but he has confidence now. He knows what he wants. He is even teaching me better grammar. Every week he has something new to share.
I would recommend Honor’s tutoring to anyone who wants to help their child go as far as they can, with confidence. She never gives up. She is worth every penny and more. There can be no price for my son’s future.
I will gladly recommend Honor.
Sincerely,
Crystal and Max Parker 2017

My 11 year old son has difficulties with reading and writing. As a 5th grader, he was evaluated at a grade 3 level in reading. We started tutoring sessions twice a week with Honor in January. We immediately noticed a big improvement with his confidence and attitude towards reading. Honor is very knowledgeable and my son really likes working with her. He’s now in grade 6 and his teacher is confident that by the end of the school year, he won’t need an individual learning plan and he will be at the same level as the other kids in his classroom. Honor is really good with children; she provides feedback and is very reliable.
